THE death of Bill Morgan has occurred at his home in Barnstaple at the age of 93. Bill was born in Penarth in 1921 and he was educated at Victoria School not far from his home in Coleridge Avenue.

On leaving school he took up an apprenticeship with The Penarth Electric Lighting Company while at the same time studying electrical engineering at Cardiff Technical College. Soon after attaining his degree in 1943 he volunteered to join the RAF.

He received a commission and almost immediately was sent to the Far East where he served during the war against the Japanese. After returning home in 1947 he continued his electrical engineering career, but now with the South Western Electricity Generating Board (SWEGB).

Promotions took him to various parts of South West England where at one time he became responsible for overseeing the electrification of many parts of rural Cornwall. He and his family lived for a while in Looe before settling in Barnstaple, North Devon where he eventually retired.

There he and his wife lived very active social lives. Bill was a Rotarian and a member of his local Probus Club. He was a keen bowler and a member of the local Rugby Union Club. He is survived by his wife Joyce and their three children. His brother Jim who lives in Llantwit Major is the sole surviving member of his Penarth family.
