JUST before Christmas, my wife and I attended a delightful concert at Elfed Avenue United Church, Penarth where the three singers were Fiona Harrison (Soprano), Julian Boyce (Baritone) and Simon Crosby Buttle (Tenor), all of whom perform with the Welsh National Opera.

They performed a variety of Christmas songs and carols and other light arias. They sang as soloists, duets and as a trio which made for an extremely enjoyable and lively performance. The accompanist was Susan Bird who proved to be a wonderful pianist.

To cap it all off, we were treated to homemade cakes and a cup of tea. However, it was disappointing to see so few people in attendance and the purpose of my letter is to encourage as many others to attend and enjoy such professional performances.

There is another concert during the afternoon of Sunday, January 18 where two professional musicians, Robin Green (pianist) and Maia Brodio (violinist, first section Welsh National Opera) will be performing. Please support these marvellous local events.

My wife and I paid at the door, £10 each, but readers can apparently book tickets via the Facebook page of Penarth Concert Club.
