THE people of Penarth are right to object to the use of Alexandra Park as an entertainment venue, but for the wrong reason.

The park at night is freezing cold and windswept.

If, however, Phil Beaman were to walk halfway along the pier and look back, he would see what is potentially the most spectacular amphitheatre in Britain - The Kymin site.

It takes little imagination to see the garden sweeping down in a series of terraces to the foreshore, thus providing a much-needed sunbathing area.

The house itself, although much- loved is now dangerously close to the cliff and unsuitable for the needs of a modern community.

If part of the site alongside the Kymin steps were to be sold for a hotel, it would also to be possible to provide a wonderful modern community centre and small multi-storey car park.

Removing the wall on Beach Road and cutting back slightly would provide car parking all the way down to the pier.

We would then be left with a great sweep of green right up to Kymin Terrace with a level stage at the bottom and spectacular views out into the channel.

Bulldozing a rough causeway round to the barrage, with traffic lights and marker posts is also a possibility.

I was very impressed with the tenacity of the group who provided the impetus for the renovation of the pier. Look what a joy that has turned out to be. Let’s carry on the good work.
