I READ with interest the article you published about the Penarth resident using a leaf vac to clear a footpath near his home.

This reminds me of the time last year, 2014, when I phoned the council to ask when they were going to sweep the lane close to where I live.

I was told by the council that they now only sweep the lanes in Penarth every three months.

I myself phoned the council five times, starting in March and ending in May, they never sent out anyone at all, so after waiting weeks I decided to clean up at least the half of the lane closest to me.

In face I did this twice, no sight of the council. If they ever did turn up, they left again without doing much, if anything, but I’m convinced they never did anything as I saw no evidence.

So the man who removed the leaves on the council's behalf would most likely still be waiting if he had not done it for them.
