MAY I, as secretary of the Penarth and District Lesotho Trust, thank all those who have responded to our appeal for used Duplo and Lego to send out to children in Lesotho.

Our central collection point is Stanwell Road Baptist Church and we have been busy sorting, cleaning and storing the large amount of blocks that have been donated.

Later this year, the Duplo and Lego will go to specified schools in Lesotho, largely in the Teyateyaneng area and children will be very excited to play with this wonderful and versatile toy, rather than with bottle tops and bits of wire.

The blocks will also be a valuable and long-lasting teaching resource to help teachers in those schools deliver the national syllabus.

There is still time to be involved in this project and if any readers have some Duplo or Lego that could be spared or know of others who have, there are collection points in Griffin Books, Tesco’s, the Council Offices, the Kymin, the libraries in Penarth and Dinas Powis, the Health Centre in Dinas Powis and the Old School Hall in Sully.

What an exciting thought that a toy you enjoy in Wales can make the journey to Africa and bring lasting pleasure to a child you may never meet but whose life will be affected for the better because of your gift.

So, Le’go your Lego and make a positive difference to a child in Lesotho.
