ON March 12, 2013, I wrote to the Vale of Glamorgan Council Highways department in respect of a number of issues affecting the highways in Penarth.

One of the matters I raised was the “temporary bollards and kerbstones” situated at Marine Parade and its junction with Raisdale Road.

I forwarded a copy of my correspondence and photos to all the councillors in Penarth who should have had an interest in this area. I did not receive a single reply!

The temporary bollards were installed as an interim measure in 2000 whilst the esplanade was made a one-way street on an experimental basis.

The temporary traffic bollards and kerb have remained in a short-term state ever since (15 years) it must be a record for temporary measures.

I am pleased to note that earlier this month, and at last, the Vale of Glamorgan Council has undertaken remedial work with an appropriate pavement being installed. Perhaps some suitable seating can now be sited at this junction.

Readers may be interested in a website called Fix My Street see https://www.fixmystreet.com/ this allows residents to report defective pavements, potholes, fly-tipping and a range of issues affecting the local area.

It is very easy to use and when a report has been made it is forwarded to the relevant local authority.
