WHAT next? Communities organising their own refuse and street cleaning.
The provision of a library service is an integral part of the Councils responsibility to provide educational opportunities to all its citizens from the cradle to the grave.
The proposed savings from removing trained librarians from five local libraries are so small against the overall budget managed by the Council. The cost of supporting voluntary libraries and the damage done to the community far outweigh the benefits of this irresponsible action by the Council.
In fact the "savings" gained by leasing 40 new cars for Council staff will more than cover the cost of retaining a reduced hours library service across all locations.
Is it too much to expect a Labour controlled council to protect its people from these damaging cuts. After all the Government is still spending £90 billion more than it collects each year. A few pounds more in the Vale so what.
