‘KIDNEY Wales Barry Walk for Life ‘sounds admirable; sadly the truth is less so.

I would support organ donation; unfortunately the Welsh Assembly led by the Welsh Government has passed a Bill that in effect abolishes organ donation, and replaces it by what I believe is organ seizure, as in the bailiffs coming to take away your property, by force if necessary.

Kidney Wales and Roy Thomas in particular helped the passing of this Bill, which will come into effect on December 1, 2015. The new Act does not even mention the word 'donation'; it only uses ' transplantation'.

I can’t support Kidney Wales and particularly not Roy Thomas as he led them in this direction.

The right of the family to decide whether the organs of their loved one should be taken and used for transplant has been abolished.

So even if the deceased died without registering his/her own decision the family will not be entitled to decide, even if they and the deceased have absolute religious or ethical or other reasons of principle to the taking of one or any of the organs.

The surgeons will be able to take any of up to 16 organs, they won't even have to guarantee to use them or return them if not used.

There will be no guarantee that the deceased even knew the law existed; the Government may pretend that every person will be informed now and every year in the future, but that is most unlikely as any expert can tell you.

The First Minister promised (Observer, May 9, 2010) that this kind of law would not be passed, but he helped to support this law when it was debated.

Your body has been nationalised and many people, including many who replied to the consultations, thought the Act would protect family veto. We have been bitterly disappointed.

The new Welsh politics turns out to the same as Westminster-steam rolling ethical disagreement and caution.
