Extracts from the Penarth Times of May 7, 1965:

On Easter Sunday, each member of Penarth Old Age Pensioners present at their meeting received a gift of new-laid eggs and some were also distributed to the sick and aged members.

At a recent meeting of the branch, it was learned that £16 was made at the recent jumble sale.

A table tennis team from Albert Road Methodist Youth Club, have won their way to the finals of the MAYC table tennis championships.

Large congregations attended the Sunday School Anniversary Services at Albert Road Methodist Church on Sunday last. The morning service, led by the smaller children, was an act of sheer praise and joy. By demonstration, action song, readings and "pop" hymns the boys and girls helped the congregation in worship.

Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society is putting the final polish on its production of Franz Lehar's "The Merry Widow," which is to be staged at the Paget Rooms, Penarth, during the whole of the week commencing May 17.

Six more teams want to join the Penarth Darts League next season. This augurs well for the league and once again we can look forward to another great year. Teams are reminded that the AGM will be held on Tuesday, August 10, at the Cefn Mably Hotel, commencing at 8.30pm.

Last Sunday, a Penarth side travelled to Cardiff for their annual visit to the hallowed turf at the Arms Park. After winning the toss, Cardiff elected to bat on a good, fairly firm, thought slow wicket - a wicket which forbade flowing stroke play, yet at the same time gave very little help to the bowlers.

Playing at Jenner Park, Barry, last Saturday evening, Cogan Coronation could find no answer to the power-play of Barry's second division champions, Barry Saints in the final of the Barry league's Junior Cup.

Dinas Powis Council has held discussions about the possibility of erecting a pavilion at the Common with representatives of the Dinas Powis Athletic Club, and are now waiting for the Athletic Club to decide whether they are prepared to allow the Council a piece of ground for this purpose.
