I AM sure this will not be the only letter you receive on the subject of the new viewing platform on Penarth Head.

Having seen the structure yesterday I am almost lost for words.

It is not only absolutely hideous to look at, but is completely out of proportion and dominates the space.

A notice board identifying the places that can be seen across the Bristol Channel, and possibly a flowerbed may have been nice but the park really didn’t need any improvement – it was a lovely place just to sit quietly and enjoy the stunning views.

However, my greatest concern is safety.

It beggars belief that the platform has been built so high and so closely to the cliff-edge.

I walk my dog on the beach below and I know what is on the other side of those railings – nothing at all.

I don’t want to tempt fate by putting my fears into words, suffice it to say that a few balls on top of the railing spikes are not the answer.

£75,000 has already been wasted in ruining this lovely little park but I can’t help thinking that whatever it would cost to remove this dangerous and unsightly blot on the landscape would be money well-spent.
