IT IS truly alarming that the Vale has the worst ambulance service in Wales. The figures given out by the Welsh Government show that only 41 per cent of emergency calls hit the minimum response time.

How on earth is this possible? Over all the rates are not very good but the Vale is significantly worse than neighbouring counties. Cardiff has 50 per cent and Bridgend 60 per cent response rates.

Surely this is a dreadful indictment of the Welsh Government and in particular Penarth’s AM Vaughan Gethin who is actually responsible for ambulances!

Week after week we see Labour AMs blaming every one under the sun for problems in Wales. Yet the ambulance service is the clear responsibility of the Labour run Government. I don’t blame the paramedics who do a great job.

I remember Labour saying that response times would be met six months ago. What a farce.

I know that Plaid Cymru is committed to link health and care so that patients could be released from hospital earlier. This would be a huge benefit and avoid the obscene queues of ambulances at the Heath that we regularly see.

We also need to review the out of hours care service so that unnecessary attendance at A&E can be avoided. It’s time to give a shock to the complacent Labour rule in the Bay. To my mind Plaid offers a better option than the same old tired Labour AMs.
