Extracts from the Penarth Times of September 10, 1965:

Following Government restrictions on credit, Penarth Council has had to defer certain classes of mortgage applications for houses, it is learned this week.

The Council, is at present, not in a position to advance loans as far as new property is concerned.

After holding mighty Cardiff to a slender 6-3 lead at half time, Penarth were later over run and went down 41-3 after a glut of 35 points in the second period at the Arms Park on Saturday.

A magnificent entry of 302 anglers competed in the Fifth South Wales Open Angling Championships, sponsored by the Penarth Sea Angling Club and held at Penarth last Sunday.

The local football season started in earnest last Saturday with teams showing their paces on firms pitches. Cogan Coronation and Penarth YMCA both won with scores of 4-1. Swan Stars claimed victory 3-2 but UBB in the Barry league, failed by the odd goal in seven.

The new £6,300 library built by the Glamorgan County Council at the Murch was officially opened by County Councillor Mrs Winn-Jones the local member, on Tuesday.

Entertainment at last week's meeting of the Dinas Powis Old Folks' Welcome Club was provided by the Dinam Hall Concert Party, with a varied programme of solos, duets choruses and dances.

This weekend sees the beginning of a full programme of events, organised by the Penarth Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Their programme, commencing this Saturday extends throughout the following week, ending with the Commemoration Parade and Church Service at St Augustine's Church.

Penarth Music and Arts Club's Autumn season starts next Friday, September 10, with the annual dinner to be held this year at the St Fagan's Hotel, Penarth at 7.30pm for 8pm.
