DEAR editor,
Hilary Benn's histrionic speech making a false comparison with Britain's stand against fascism won applause in the Commons, but the true comparison is with the First World War when our ruling elite blundered into a conflict that cost them their sons, and millions of other people's sons.
The real hero of the hour was John Bishop, Conservative MP and infantryman, who moved the amendment to block military action in Syria because he knows that bombing innocent civilians without troops on the ground can only lead to more terrorism.
How Labour misses those MPs who did fight against fascism and who understood the true cost of war. They went on to build Jerusalem in our green and pleasant land in the form of our welfare state and our health service that is now being destroyed to pay for Cameron's war-mongering.
