I was interested to read the letter from Mr Bob Skinner in your newspaper last week (Venue may not survive. PT Dec. 3 2015).

In it he expresses his disappointment at what he perceives to be a lack of activity at the Pier Pavilion particularly regarding money-raising events which he says "are few and far between".

He does however praise the exhibitions, the cinema and the cafe and I would like to make it clear to your readers that these three areas of activity are in fact money-raising events.

As a registered charity Penarth Arts and Crafts Ltd (PACL) is primarily dependent on the income generated by these core activities and can certainly demonstrate an impressive record since opening to the public in December 2013.

Mr Skinner claims that "most nights the doors are shut at 5pm, the main hall dark".

We do indeed close at 5pm on Mondays.

However, the rest of the week there is a full programme of cinema screenings mainly in the evening, but also with some matinee screenings, with the cafe remaining open until 7.30pm prior to the film show.

Between December 1 and Christmas Eve we will have had 42 separate screenings.

Most evenings there are activities associated with our charitable objectives and we also host a number of other events such as Welsh language classes run by Cardiff University.

During the first two years of managing the Pavilion we have put on many musical events including choral concerts, chamber music festivals and dance nights.

Each Sunday leading up to Christmas we will be putting on a free musical event in the afternoon.

Full details can be found on our website.

There is just not the space in a letter such as this to give details of all the various events that take place regularly in the Pavilion.

Therefore, I would like to issue an invitation to any of your readers to contact me to arrange a visit to the Pavilion when I will be happy to share with them the full programme.

Yours sincerely

Professor Tony Hazell

Chairman, PACL
