DEAR editor,

Not only is it the number 88 bus, but other services contracted by the Vale Council that don't run, even though they take public subsidy.

My visiting family went to catch the 91 service to Cosmeston last August bank holiday on a Friday. The bus never showed up, so they had to wait an hour.

Likewise the bus 91 did not show up for the return journey from Cosmeston park, so we had to hang around for the next one.

Apparently, the council checks only if and when they receive complaints. That's surely an irresponsible attitude to spending public funds.

Why don't they require the bus companies to report on each subsidised service, recording any delays and cancellations, and give them funding only if they deliver the specified service?
