WHILST it was good to read all the positive things we get by living in Penarth. I noticed that the majority of the things listed were buildings, parks, scenery and access to Cardiff.

I would at this point like to add an extra accolade for the shops who have remained faithful to the town centre, Stanwell Road and Glebe Street, who, with their staff, add warmth to the town.

Capus will be forever in my heart and is sorely missed by many. Let’s hope the shop frontage will remain intact. I believe it is Grade II listed and deserves to remain as a reminder of the town’s history.

So why is there an element of the population who treat Penarth and its residents so badly?

Dog walkers who allow their dogs to defecate on our pavements.

What would the reaction be if a child was allowed to do so? So for those who treat their dogs like children, clean up after them.

How many people are aware that the council pay to recycle the black litter bin bag? If dog faeces is place in them they cannot be recycled. They go to landfill.

This is why we have receptacles for doggy litter bags.

I recently cleared away dog faeces outside the front gate, twice in one week. Carrying at least four buckets of water on each occasion. I am not exactly in my dotage, but not as fit as I would like.

In addition to which, I have a water meter. So I am paying to clear up after the dog owners.

When will we get a 20 mile speed limit? As a pedestrian trained to stop and look right and left, I implement this at every road junction and whilst at pedestrian crossings.

As a gap appears in the flow of traffic I move forward, but there are drivers who speed up to pass by.

They drive across whilst pedestrians are on the crossing.

This is not only my story I have heard similar versions from other residents.

Last week at the roundabout end of Albert Road, I saw a woman, bent over with her walking stick, approaching the kerb, opposite the entrance to Lloyds car park. The road clear we checked both ways and walked across the road.

We were practically over, when suddenly a large grey/black car came speeding from Windsor Road, the driver looking to the right. Why? He had right of way.

If I had not been there to halt my companion, I dread to think of the consequences. He then proceeded to shout and gesticulate, as we completed our journey to the pavement.

He continued to yell as he drove quickly up Albert Road.
