ONCE again the Penarth Town Council has let down the public by failing to screen the National Theatre Live performance of A View From The Bridge when “technical errors” resulted in a no show.
Although this time there was a slight improvement, as the expectant audience did manage to gain entry to the Paget Rooms. Unlike last time, when the doors were shut and lights out with no explanatory notice on the door and no apology in the local paper.
It was left to the poor caretaker to take the brunt of people’s displeasure while local councillor Mr Cuddy, who was there, disclaimed all knowledge of why the PTC failed to provide the technical expertise to operate the equipment.
Money was refunded with some difficulty on the part of the member of staff who seemed to have problems with addition and subtraction.
A scrap of paper on the counter with the name Alice and a mobile telephone number seemed to be the only contact with PTC staff.
Not much help when the equipment isn’t working. We wondered, did “Alice” have the technical expertise and if so why wasn’t she there? When local people try to support their local council, it is disappointing when they are let down in this way.
For those people who might want to attend the next NTL performances, they are also shown in the Cardiff cinemas, so maybe that is a better option. At least they will have properly operated equipment.
