OUR MP, Stephen Doughty, rightly says that it is essential that the people have a say on the terms of the deal to be negotiated with the EU, but how will this be possible when the next prime minister will be chosen, not by the British people, but by Tory party members from the ranks of a failed Tory government responsible for the biggest political catastrophe since the illegal invasion of Iraq, which they not only supported but followed up in Libya.

The Brexit vote should have put an end to this government of austerity cuts that made it impossible for local councils to provide sufficient housing, school places or adequate healthcare, and allowed the blame to be deflected onto immigrants, but they will dig themselves in for another four wasted years under a new leader, despite being under investigation for buying last year’s election.

Any opposition worthy of the name would demand an election on the basis that every vote should count, as in the referendum, but we do not have that opposition, thanks in no small part to Blair’s disastrous legacy of Iraq.
