THE wrinkled water blue and sparkling

Is as if adorned with priceless diamonds

Mallards and swans gliding in the summer air

As passers-by memorise the view

Of the lake and reeds now green in July.

It is a scene so soul-soothing and serene

Then as if I’d been in a time machine

I enter a medieval village

Where life was short and peasants toiled

So much more than in this digital age.

An elderly woman on a bench

Shares food with her beloved dog

A simple pleasure on a sun-kissed day

When problems in the world seem far away.
