REMEMBRANCE Day will soon be here.

Most of us will be pinning a red poppy in our lapel as a mark of remembrance of soldiers killed or injured in war.

For those who wish to also mark the death and injuries of non-combatants caught in the violence of war, white poppies are available in Penarth at Jo’s Organics, in Glebe Street; Pro Health in Stanwell Street; and Griffin Books, at the entrance to Windsor Arcade.

The white poppy also serves as a reminder of the seeming inability of mankind to settle conflicts without resort to killing.

It is a symbol of commitment to work for a world where conflicts are resolved peaceably and with justice.

Wearing a white poppy along with a red poppy is an expression both of respect for those who have suffered, and of hope for a future when war is no more.

The white poppies in Penarth have been supplied by Penarth Meeting of Friends (Quakers). Any donations will help cover the costs of their production, with any surplus helping to fund Quaker peace work.
