MS MAYNARD in her letter last week implored our member of parliament Stephen Doughty to respect the democratic will of the people and refrain any activities that would prevent or delay Britain’s exit from the European Union.

I am unsure of the evidence on which Ms Maynard bases her assertion that our MP is acting in this manner but wholeheartedly agree with her overall sentiment that Mr Doughty needs to ‘represent his constituents and not put his own agenda forward’.

The referendum votes were counted on a local authority area basis and not a parliamentary constituency basis.

The Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff Local Authority areas both voted to remain whilst academic estimation of the constituency voting patterns across the UK also indicates a decisive vote for remain in Mr Doughty’s parliamentary constituency of Cardiff South and Penarth, which straddles these local authority areas.

Consequently I stand shoulder to shoulder with Ms Maynard and implore Mr Doughty to put aside his personal views, respect the democratic will of his constituents and fight Brexit to the last.
