AT 8am on Wednesday, August 1, 2007, as part of the worldwide celebration of Scouting's Centennial Year, here in Penarth District we are celebrating with a Sunrise Ceremony on Penarth cliff-top, at which all our members, young and old, will reaffirm their Scout Promises and the Beacon will be lit.

It is hoped that as many local Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Network and Fellowship members, as well as our leaders and other adult support staff, will all be there in uniform or not, and with all flags flying!

Everyone who is associated with Scouting in the UK is being asked at 8am on this day to stop what they are doing, to remember the words of their Scout Promise, and to think about what Scouting means for them.

This open ceremony is being held on the Cliff Walk, adjacent to the pitch-and-put course, and everybody is invited to come along and to watch us light the Beacon at 8am.

We would like everybody to try to arrive at the Cliff Walk by 7.45am. Free parking is available in the large car park at the top of Cliff Parade next to the cafe.

After the Sunrise Ceremony we then have plans to put on some activities for the youngsters who are there.

Our Explorer Scouts have promised to put together some 'Bacon Butties', drinks and other things to keep us warm!

We are inviting local civic dignitaries to come and join us, and we invite anybody who was ever in the Scout Movement to come along at 8am to help us mark the 100th Birthday of Scouting.

So, if you were ever a Wolf Cub, a Scout, a Senior Scout, a Rover Scout, a Venture Scout, or if you were a Scout leader or other supporter of Scouting, we would very much like to see you at this historic Scouting occasion in Penarth.

Can I ask you to please let us know if you would like to come along and join us on August 1, by contacting the District Secretary (see below) to let him know you are coming.

We would like to have some idea on just how many we might need to cater for!

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you all there, and the sun will, of course, be shining brightly!
