Sick of gulls

I WISH to voice my disgust about the increasing menace of the seagulls who inhabit the town.

More and more people that I speak to are tired of having this form of vermin in our midst, for a variety of reasons but largely those of hygiene and noise.

There are those who feel the hygiene aspect is not helped by the amount of refuse left by take away food outlets in the area surrounding Glebe Street. The litter in general discarded by a lazy public is making this an even more acute problem .

The ultimate insult was witnessed by me on Sunday morning at the Cliff Top car park, where a member of the Vale of Glamorgan parks department staff was seen to actively encourage a flock of seagulls by feeding them.

This surely has to be one of the most stupid and anti-social acts that could be perpetrated by an employee of the local authority. The re-cycling site has been a disgusting area for many years I would also like to add my voice to the increasing numbers of residents who wish to see the clearance of the Billybanks site. As each week passes it becomes more of an abhorrence.

How long is it going to be before we are relieved from this unpleasantness? When the Vale Council can carry out such profligacy in the form of the failed Headland walkway link, then surely they lack even the smallest amount of common sense and consideration for the council tax payer.

This is now a major blot on the landscape in South Wales.

When we are confronted by totally impractical proposals to place a medical surgery in either the former Woolworths or Cogan Leisure Centre, then we must recognise that there is no longer any common sense prevailing.

Penarth used to be known as the "Garden by the sea" – more appropriately it should be called the "Garbage bin by the sea."
