IN response to the ‘Collections need sorting’ letter (Penarth Times, August 5) – I have followed the guidelines on recycling and black bag collection as laid out, as have my neighbours. The fortnightly collection is totally unacceptable! We too are now taking refuse bags to the tip in between collections – a ridiculous situation.

I live in a small semi on Cosmeston estate. I have problems with rats. Myself and my adjacent neighbour are currently being treated for rats within our homes.

The council pest controller is very supportive and efficient. The results of his work were seen this morning in the form of a dead nine-inch rat outside the house.

The rats have caused distress and disruption, both to myself and my neighbour, having experienced internal flooding twice resulting in extensive insurance work.
