SUNDAY, July 11, 2011, was a bright sunny day which raised the spirits of most people in the Vale of Glamorgan.

It gave the children a chance to run in the parks, play on the beaches, and an opportunity for the grown-ups to wash their cars and tidy their gardens.

But for all those involved with Anwen Little Theatre, the day was a very sad one.

This was the day that, with heavy hearts, the members of Anwen Juniors gave their final performance.

For 33 years Anwen Little Theatre has entertained the people of South Wales with musicals, plays, concerts and charity fundraising and sadly the curtain has now fallen for the last time.

Over the years Marian Cook, the company's founder, has directed in excess of 130 productions and watched countless local children grow and mature as they were introduced or the wonders of musical theatre and to the joy of performing for and entertaining others.

The last show, entitled At Home With Anwen Juniors, was performed fittingly at St John's Hall in Barry which has been the group's base for many years.

Each child in the company gave a solo performance as well participating in rousing chorus numbers and the hard work of director Marian Cook and choreographer Ceri Wheatley, assisted by Jayne and Lynda, certainly paid off as the children radiated happiness during an afternoon touched with sadness.

As light refreshments were served the proud parents had a chance to browse through 33 years of Anwen's photographs and props.

It was also a time to reminisce about times past, recall happy memories and to be proud of all those youngsters who have become confident young men and women many of whom have gone on to fulfil their dreams and found careers on the professional stage.

On behalf of everyone who has been involved with Anwen Little Theatre over the last 33 years, Marian Cook, Jayne Murphy and Lynda Lea would like to thank Gwyneth Blakemore for her help and everyone in the locality for their support, particularly Anwen's loyal audiences who made it all worthwhile.

Thank you all.
