Remember our heroes
8:50am Thursday 21st June 2012 in Letters
PENARTH Town Council would like to draw the attention of residents and visitors to the Armed Forces Day Parade that has been organised for the evening of Wednesday, June 27.
The parade forms part of a programme of events being held throughout the UK in support of Armed Forces Day with a national event being held in Plymouth on June 30.
The parade will assemble at 7.30pm in the grounds of West House where town mayor, Cllr Philip Rapier will say a few words and the Reverend Peter Cox will say prayers before the parade marches off at 7.45pm.
The route to be taken will be Stanwell Road, Hickman Road, Windsor Road (town centre), Stanwell Road and back to West House, where the parade will be dismissed.
As the parade passes the St Fagan’s Pub in Windsor Road the town mayor, commanding officers and civic dignitaries will receive the salute.
The parade will be led by the town crier, Dave Horgan, and a band organised by Phil Morris, chairman of the British Legion Club Penarth.
Penarth police have very kindly agreed to provide a rolling road closure to enable the parade to march in safety along its route.
Among the military personnel in the parade will be officers from 580 Glamorgan Transport Squadron RLC and HMS Cambria together with veterans, sea, army and air force cadets and representatives from various uniform and non-uniform organisations.
Members of Penarth Town Council would be grateful if residents and visitors would line the route of the parade in a show of support and appreciation of not only those marching next Wednesday evening but of the Armed Forces in general.
Motorists are asked to be aware of the parade route and to have understanding and patience should they be delayed or inconvenienced during the short time it will take the parade to travel along its route.
