Please don’t steal our sun
7:20am Thursday 28th June 2012 in Letters
PLEASE don’t spoil our wind-breaker suntrap sitting area on Penarth Pier.
Wheelchair ramps, a rail and a wall are about to be built in front of the seated area on the sunny side at the beginning of the Pier.
This area has been loved by people from all over Cardiff and beyond plus locals from Penarth for many years for the hot sun and the social aspect.
We feel if wheelchairs go up and down the ramps (apart from having to raise our feet constantly) there could be a real possibility of a serious accident with a wheelchair going over someone’s feet.
People feel the ramps could be put on the mirror image non-sunny side of the Pier or even perhaps at the front entrance of the building.
We are told the reason the ramps can’t be on the non-sunny side is because the council bins, at present on the non-sunny side, can’t be moved. We know more need to be added for the future café, but we are reliably informed that these and the new ones can be put in another area of the Pier.
So Pavilion Project members, the council, and Health & Safety – please listen to the many people who use this sitting area and do not spoil this wonderful sunny spot and put people’s safety at risk.
Please copy and paste the plans and put the ramps on the non-sunny side.
