Thyroid Cancer Support Group

THE Thyroid Cancer Support Group held a fundraising summer party night at the Function Room, Seashore Café Bar and Grill, Swanbridge, on Friday, July 6.

This is the fourth time that the group has held such an event at the Seashore Grill and once again the night was extremely successful.

The evening included a superb buffet (catered by the Seashore) and entertainment by Bob Sax.

The group would like to thank everyone who attended, and the Seashore Grill for their generous support.

Also thanks to the Little Blue Deli, Thompson Street, Barry; Morrisons, Barry Waterfront; Waitrose Barry; Tesco Barry; Jacquies, High Street; She Wears It Well, High Street; and Timpsons, Barry, who kindly donated vouchers and prizes towards the evening.

Thyroid Cancer Support Group Wales is a self-help support group which meets at Velindre Hospital with the aim of supporting patients and their families when diagnosed with this rare form of cancer. Even though thyroid cancer is rare, it is one of the fastest increasing cancers in the UK.

The group is committed to funding the Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer Tissue Bank to be based at Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff. It will be the first of its kind in the UK and indeed in Europe.

Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer is an extremely rare form of thyroid cancer and research is needed to improve treatment and prognosis. The estimated amount required to begin and maintain research for five years is £10,200.

If you feel able to help the Thyroid Cancer Support Group Wales, even in a small way, donations can be made via Virgin Money Giving.
