Salmon leap draining is a big blow
8:00am Thursday 12th July 2012 in Letters
ONE of our nearest ‘ports of call’ that remains outside of urban sprawl is that of Michaelston-le-Pit.
It is at the point where the Wrinstone Brook flows from Cwm George to fill manmade lakes, that the beauty of the once-active fisheries comes into being.
Unfortunately the top lake, the one crypto-zoologically known as ‘Salmon Leaps’, appears to have been deliberately drained. This has left flora and fauna in a vulnerable state where they no longer have the protection of their natural habitat. And this is occurring when animals, like the water birds, are in breeding season.
One can only hope there is a valid reason for this action and that it can be corrected, so that the ‘Leaps’ with all their myths of salmon can be restored to their full splendour.
