Cold Calling Zone proposal - change of date for meeting
7:30am Thursday 6th September 2012 in Letters
REGARDING the letter about a no cold calling zone at Carys Close that appeared in last week’s Penarth Times (August 30), please note the change in dates.
Residents of Carys Close, Penarth, have approached the trading standards department in order to progress a no cold calling zone for this street.
These are designed to discourage nuisance callers and rogue traders who, for example, tell householders that work needs to be done to their property and then charge exorbitant prices or try to trick their way into the house to commit a burglary.
The zone is there to give a message to callers that they are not wanted in that area and that people will not do business with them.
Introducing a no cold calling zone will involve putting signs on the lamppost on the entrance of the street, which will tell people that they are entering an area where residents do not buy goods and services from uninvited sales people.
Residents of this street are prepared to administer and fund this initiative themselves.
However, should you have any objections to this scheme, please make your views known at the next PACT meeting on Wednesday, September 12, at 7pm at Lower Penarth Community Centre, Brockhill Way, Penarth.
Alternatively, telephone trading standards on 01446 709105 by September 21.
