Questions for local MP

MAY I add my support to the writer a few weeks ago (Penarth Times, September 13) who questioned Alun Michael’s weekly View from Westminster column. As a self-styled “voice of the people”, his boring pieces reflect how hard he works attending all those meetings, and for which he is barely recompensed, and have recently taken on a distinct shade of interest in law enforcement (I wonder why).

I see the value of having a local representative writing about matters that concern the residents of Penarth and surrounding area. But Alun is far too busy for local matters and often rambles on about national or international affairs, proving what an outstanding statesman he has always been. His claptrap piece on “restorative justice” makes my point.

At least the writers to the letters page provide local information and viewpoints, and tackle issues that we can all enjoy.
