Dog mess is just part of it

I WRITE in response to Adrian Foster’s letter in last week’s issue titled ‘Shame to see dog mess’ (Penarth Times, October 4).

I am a dog owner but, first and foremost, I am a parent, and I completely agree with Mr Foster regarding the laziness of dog owners in cleaning up after their dogs.

I walk my dog daily along the footpath at Cogan Rec, and I do not walk more than a few feet without seeing evidence of this laziness.

I call on the council to install some dog bins, as the only ones available are the public use bins which are overflowing with dog bags from the responsible dog owners, which is not a pleasant sight and certainly not a pleasant smell on a sunny day.

The other thing I’d like to say though is that when I walk my dog, I don’t let her off the leash until we are well away from the children’s play area.

I have been sitting while my children play, and the sight of a large dog or any size dog for that matter, bounding towards them is enough to scare the wits out of anyone, never mind a small child. Please dog owners, be a bit more responsible and pick up after your dogs, and keep control of them while in a children’s play area. After all, the recreation area is ideal for all of us if we just show a little respect.
