Where to put statue?

I ENJOYED the tongue-in-cheek letter (Penarth Times, October 11) by David Morris Jones suggesting the erection of a statue in honour of our soon-to-retire Member of Parliament. It seems the latter is seeking a much more lucrative post as Police Commissioner for South Wales (not to mention a family member seeking exactly the same position in North Wales).

David Morris Jones went as far as to suggest two possible sites in Penarth for the statue. One was to replace the clock tower on the roundabout in Windsor Road. However, if one looks closely at the four clock faces each is emblazoned with the Rotary Wheel. The clock was paid for by the Rotary Club of Penarth (which coincidentally celebrates its 75th anniversary this year), so as a Rotarian I cannot support that suggestion!

The other site he mentions is outside the St Fagans pub. Not blooming likely, because I enjoy a regular pint there and to place a statue of our erstwhile member outside the pub window might have the effect of causing the beer to go off.

How about the highest point on Flat Holm? His supporters could then invest in a powerful telescope and/or a boat and the rest of us could carry on as before - in blissful indifference.
