THE Vale of Glamorgan Council is having trouble relocating day-care services from Barry to Gardenhurst in Penarth.
The Barry-based Woodlands Day Centre was due to be transferred to Gardenhurst, following a renovation for £244,000 - a decision made by the local authority in 2011.
But mounting costs above that figure prompted a report to cabinet last week, which questioned the cost effectiveness of the plan.
The report said there was a need to investigate the structural integrity of Gardenhurst before the renovation continued, and further work has subsequently been put on hold.
Groud floor works, including refitted toilets and new changing areas, have already been carried out at a cost of £113,000.
But recommendations for an in-depth building survey, and a costed plan for further remedial works were both approved by the cabinet members.
Woodlands relocation to Penarth was announced as part of a raft of changes to day service provision as a whole across the Vale.
The day centre in Barry was judged to be in too poor a condition of repair to continue being used when the decision was taken.
Gardenhust's original operation was also affected by the changed, with its services for the elderly merged with Rondel House in Barry, despite objections from campaigners over the travel inconvenience for its local users.
