AN INTREPID dental practice trio will swap smiles for screams when they take part in a daring zip slide in aid of charity.
Smile Dental Studio, Penarth, staff members Tracey Morris, Wendy Stewart and Caroline Barry will take on the The Wire, in Chepstow, - one the UK's biggest challenges, in aid of patients in Penarth and the Vale supported by the Bristol-based Pituitary Foundation.
The charity is the only one in the country supporting people affected by pituitary gland disorders.
Their attempt at The Wire - one of the largest at 70m in height across a 700m deep flooded quarry - will take place on Sunday, June 9.
And the brave employees are hoping to rack up £300 in cash and raise vital awareness of pituitary conditions.
Practice manager, Wendy Stewart said: "We have patients who we know that have been affected by pituitary disorders.
"We witnessed just how devastating a diagnosis can be and how little is know about the charity.
"As a practice we are always eager to support charitable causes and the work that the Pituitary Foundation do is amazing.
"We just wanted to help them raise awareness as well as a few pounds in the process."
Jay Sheppard, Fundraising and marketing officer for The Pituitary Foundation, said: "I would like to thank the staff at Smiles.
"We really appreciate the support and sincerely hope that the ladies enjoy the experience!"
He added: "Most people don't know what the pituitary is.
"It is a small gland near your brain, about the size of a pea, and it controls several of the other hormone glands in your body.
"When something goes wrong with your gland, most commonly a growth, it can have major consequences.
"The Pituitary Foundation provides free support services for anyone affected by pituitary conditions, including a National Helpline, publications and a network of local support groups across the country, including people here in Penarth.
"There are estimated to be 80,000 people in the UK affected by a pituitary condition.
"Because the symptoms of pituitary disorders are often general, such as headaches, fatigue, weight gain and vision problems for example, it can take years for someone to be diagnosed in the first place.
