WELSH medium school Ysgol Bro Morgannwg has stars in its eyes after its science-minded pupils proved the sky was no limit with its A-level results.

All pupils achieved an E grade or above with 37% of all entries graded A or above – more than the national average.

Fourteen pupils, between them, amassed a total of 45 A* and A grades in three or more subjects.

High performers were Harri Foster Davies, with five A* grades who will read medicine at Cambridge and Wil Thomas, three A* grades who will go to Bath to study mathematics.

Jacob Swambo, of Llandough, gained 2 A*’s and an A and will study theoretical physics at Imperial College, London.

Jacob, 18, said: “I’m ecstatic. I just hoped I’d get them and I did.

Dad Mike, whose elder son Joshua gained his A-levels five years ago, and studied chemistry, said: “I am over the moon. I feel like crying. It’s a fabulous school.”

Mathematics and science were the most popular subjects to study with 63% of the pupils, who studied chemistry, achieving either an A* or A grade.

The mathematicians summed up a 60% success rate with their A* and A grades, while physics students saw a 57% top grades rate.

Head teacher, Dr Dylan Jones, congratulating pupils and staff, said: “We are delighted that all pupils have excelled in their own particular fields, in both the vocational and more traditional subjects and this year all pupils achieved the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate.

“We are extremely proud of the achievements of all our pupils who have fulfilled their potential and as we celebrate excellent results in a wide range of subjects, including French, German, Welsh, the humanities and the arts which all recorded a 100% A* to C pass mark, we are delighted that as a school we continue to cater for and nurture each individual.”
