SULLY war veteran Eileen Younghusband has published a book about the “plethora of influential men” that she has met during her remarkable life.
Eileen, 92, who has already written several other books about her time in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF), recently published her latest book ‘Men I Have Known’.
During the course of her life she has met the likes of John Barrowman, Maurice Sendak, Kenneth Horne, Rex Harrison and Dudley Moore, to name a few.
In her book Men I Have Known she charts these extraordinary encounters. Giving a unique, intimate and personal perspective on some of the most influential men of the twentieth century, as well as some characters hitherto unknown, Eileen writes about Winston Churchill, Edward Heath, Dylan Thomas, members of NASA, musicians at Glyndebourne, actors, caterers, politicians, and even Idi Amin.
Shaun Russell, head of publishing at Candy Jar Books, said: “Eileen loves to talk about the men in her life. With so many interesting encounters we were spoilt for choice. Her ninety-two years are crammed full of experiences. We feel privileged to be able to tell her remarkable stories to the wider public.”
Eileen’s address book is also littered with the details of high ranking military personnel as well as boasting celebrity figures such as Alfred Noyes and Hollywood film director, Robert Towne.
Eileen was awarded a British Empire Medal earlier this year for her services to lifelong learning, and won The People’s Book Prize for her previous book One Woman’s War just a few months ago.
Eileen said of the men in her book: “There are the men I loved, men I have loathed, men I have despised and men I have admired. There are ones who taught me, shocked me and amused me. There were some that I was able to teach. But among these men, it is for me to know and you to wonder how many I slept with!”
Men I Have Known is available to buy from all good book retailers.
