PENARTH’S Ty Hafan charity shop is set to be taken over in an Apprentice-style fundraising challenge.
The charity shop, on Windsor Road, will be taken over by a team of staff from the law firm Lewis Silkin on Friday, September 6.
Two teams comprising lawyers from London, Oxford and Cardiff will take over the Ty Hafan shops in Penarth and Whitchurch to see who can raise the most money for the Sully-based children’s hospice.
The teams have also been tasked with selling Ty Hafan Crackerjackpot lottery tickets, encouraging shoppers to sign up to a gift aid scheme and creating the best window display.
It is hoped that the event will raise in excess of £4,000 and help to raise vital awareness about the charity in the local communities.
As the literal translation of Penarth means ‘head of the bears’, the Penarth team have decided to call their team ‘The Bears’ in keeping with the theme. There will be a number of exciting fundraising events throughout the day, such as quizzes and games for children, tea and cakes on offer that have been donated from local businesses, raffle prizes and the chance to meet Esteban and Alfonso, two dogs that model for Ted Baker.
Katie Honeyfield, who has helped organise the fundraising challenge, said that they were inspired by the recent Welsh Rugby Union takeover of Ty Hafan charity shops in Barry and Bridgend.
“We wanted to do a fundraising day in the area and we thought it sounded like a good idea, and Ty Hafan is such an amazing charity to do it for,” she said.
“We will try and make as much money for them as possible in an Apprentice-style competition.”
As well as the charity shop takeover there is also an online auction that will be running until 9am on Friday morning.
Prizes to be auctioned include a two-night stay in a top London apartment opposite Tower Bridge with a tour of St Paul’s Cathedral and afternoon tea for two, a Fortnum and Mason wine hamper, six bottles of Laurent Perrier Champagne and a 30-minute flying lesson.
