A NEW Dinas Powys outdoor facility is in full swing thanks to a £55,000 investment by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
The outdoor gym and play area Dinas Powys Common, which is open to all ages, is the product of a Pride in our Villages grant from Creative Rural Communities division of the local authority, and Section 106 planning obligation monies.
Following two community consultations, at the Murch Community Centre and the Parish Hall, the need to improve play facilities for both adults and children was identified as a key issue in Dinas.
An outdoor gym, a wooden trail, and a multi-play area including a mini climbing wall and fire pole have been provided.
Dinas Community Council and clerk Frances Butler oversaw the initiative, and they hosted a one-mile fun-run on Bank Holiday Monday (August 26), to commemorate it.
A spokesperson for the community council said: “People are using this great new facility and have been out in the sunshine exercising. Young people are testing their agility on the new adventure trail and the play area is full of children.”
Jane Williams, senior rural regeneration officer at Creative Rural Communities added: “We are really pleased to have been able to support Dinas Powys Community Council with this great new facility which offers an attractive outdoor space for people to play, exercise and socialise.”
Creative Rural Communities administered the grant on behalf of the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, as part of the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 to 2013.
Creative Rural Communities is the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Rural Regeneration initiative.
