EMERGENCY powers have been exercised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council to demolish Bryneithin care home.
The decision was revealed in a report due to go before the Vale Council Cabinet on September 9.
It says demolition of the residential home, which closed after the last remaining resident left - despite protests from campaigners - is due to proceed “as soon as possible”.
Tenders have been received for the work, estimated at £145,000.
The figure will be included in the council’s capital programme from the building fund.
The local authority is currently holding a public consultation to identify a future use for the site that continues to help meet the needs of older people in the Vale.
The Bryneithin cabinet working group believes a residential development for older people is a viable option.
It has said selling off the land is considered a ‘last resort’.
The consultation finishes on 13 September.
