BELLE Vue Park has received a Green Flag Award for the ninth successive year – the only local park to achieve the honour.
The award, established in 1996, represents a UK national standard for parks.
It recognises and rewards parks and green spaces throughout Wales and England for meeting a range of criteria – from being welcoming and clean, to healthy, safe and secure, and addressing issues of sustainability.
Issues of conservation and heritage, and community involvement are also considered.
Belle Vue Park is the only park in Penarth - and one of just two parks in the entire Vale of Glamorgan to currently have Green Flag status. The other park is Victoria Park in Cadoxton, Barry.
The Friends of Belle Vue Park Committee, run by volunteers from the locality, works with the Vale of Glamorgan Parks Division to ensure Belle Vue Park remains an enjoyable location for people of all ages.
The annual Music in the Park festival has become enormously popular attracting visitors from far and wide, and other successful family fun events include Halloween, Christmas and Easter festivities.
