Birthday number 103 for Penarth pensioner still going strong

PENARTH’S elderly population continues to defy life expectancy rates – with a senior member of the community celebrating her 103rd birthday.
There have been several 100 plus birthdays this year, and Clarice Hepworth – better known as Gladys – is another still going strong.
The sprightly pensioner who resides at the Waverley Care Home was joined by the Penarth Town Mayor to remember the occasion earlier today (Monday September 30).
Gladys was born in 1910 and spent her whole life living and working in Penarth.
She was born one of three sisters, and has six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several more great-great-grandchildren.
Her hobbies include walking, crochet and knitting.
Town mayor Cllr Neil Moore said: “Clarice has lived through two World Wars and would have seen many changes throughout her life in Penarth. The staff and councillors at Penarth Town Council would like to wish Gladys a very happy birthday.”
