AN INITIATIVE aimed at encouraging young people across the UK to develop new digital skills is coming to Cardiff this week
The O2 Think Big School initiative, a series of 28 events that will help 3,000 young people across the UK to develop new digital skills, will arrive at Cardiff’s Park Inn by Radisson hotel on Wednesday, October 2, and Thursday, October 3.
The new initiative, also known as a “Scout camp for the 21st century”, has been designed to help young people’s future employability and to ensure that the UK’s digital skills remain at the forefront of the global economy.
The events will be a 21st Century equivalent of the scout camp – taking young people out of
school to learn real world skills that will better equip them for the future. Swapping skills like putting up tents, making fire and sewing  - Think Big Schools will show 14-18 year olds how to create and evaluate business ideas, how to use digital technology to bring it to life and the rudiments of coding they will need in the future.
The two-day Think Big School programme has been designed with the aim of enabling young people to become the active creators of the digital economy – rather than passive consumers of it. Around 300 young people from schools around the Cardiff area are due to attend the sessions.
The Think Big Schools programme is a partnership with Young Enterprise – a charity that promotes links between schools and industry to help equip young people with the skills they need to succeed in the world of work.
