A STREET trader is bringing a slice of Italy to Sully, serving hand-made pizza from a specially designed van complete with a 700kg wood-fire oven.
Rudy S Filliau has set up shop in the car park of the Sully Sports & Leisure Club on South Road, to capitalise on the “fashionable street food scene”.
Rudy, who also calls himself The Artisan Cook, said the van has been an “instant hit” with parents and children attending the club daily for sports training sessions.
“The wood-fire really locks in the flavour of the pizza and gives it a lovely smokey taste,” said Rudy, who has over twenty years experience in catering, including well-known restaurants in Cowbridge and Cardiff Bay.
“My aim is to serve great ingredients, simply cooked.”
Some Cardiff City are even said to be fans, with one reportedly buying no less than nine pizza’s in one go after a recent home game.
Rudy is currently offering a kids deal called the ‘Bambino’ for £3 – it includes pizza, a lollipop and fruit juice.
A 12 inch margherita pizza costs £5. Two additional toppings can be added for an extra £2.
Rudy also does bespoke events, weddings, festivals and birthdays.
He recently catered for a nursery-launch hosted by former Wales rugby player Gareth Thomas.
He can be found at the Sully club Monday to Friday from 4pm to 9pm.
He is waiting for the Vale of Glamorgan Council to attribute the business with a food hygiene rating.
