SULLY-BASED children’s hospice Ty Hafan has urged teams to enter its inaugural ‘bubble’ football tournament.
Ty Hafan, the family hospice for young lives, has combined five-a-side football with zorbing to launch the UK’s first bubble football fundraising tournament.
The new type of football sees players run around the pitch wearing giant inflatable bubbles while trying to collide with each other. The brainchild of Norweigans Henrik Elvestad and Johan Golden, the first match was posted on YouTube in 2011 and, after going popularity through the internet, the sport has swept Europe.
Cardiff City House of Sport will host the charity's inaugural Bubble Football tournament on Sunday, November 10.
Sali Thomas, head of events at Ty Hafan, said: “Bubble Football provides all the enjoyment of a regular five-a-side tournament with the added fun of zorbing body bubbles.
“We are very excited to be launching the first fundraising event of its kind and would encourage teams to sign up as soon as possible to secure their place.”
T? Hafan is looking for 32 enthusiastic teams to take part. Entry is just £15 per person and each team is challenged to raise £150 in sponsorship for the event, which is expected to raise more than £8,000 for T? Hafan. The children’s hospice needs more than £3m each year to provide its services to life-limited children and their families.
As well as the tournament, there will also be stalls, games and refreshments to entertain supporters on the day. Entry for spectators is just £5.
