ADULT learners who have successfully completed courses at centres in the Barry and Penarth area were rewarded for their hard work with a special certificate presentation event.

The Vale council’s Adult and Community Learning organised the event which was held at Palmerston Community Learning Centre. Jennifer Hill, chief learning and skills officer for the Vale Council launched the presentation by congratulating the adult learners on their achievements and thanking them for their hard work.

The presentations were made by the Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan, Cllr Margaret Wilkinson with the assistance of her consort Jayne Norman. The Mayor congratulated the learners and praised the high standard of their work as she said that she had been very impressed by the examples which she had seen on display when she opened the annual art exhibition and festival at Palmerston in July.

The certificates were presented to the learners who had achieved AGORED learning credits for wide range of courses including photography, IT, family history, counselling, languages and sign language. A number of new courses were added to the curriculum this year in the creative arts and textiles area including patchwork, dressmaking, crochet and jewellery.

Many of the students have ‘caught the learning bug’ and have already progressed to further courses and will be on track to achieve further qualifications in the coming year. Courses have already commenced but places are still available on a limited number of courses.
