TWO local 11-year-old friends have raised over £500 for local charity Ty Hafan by completing a 'mini' triathlon.
Aled Rees and James Steel, year 7 pupils at Stanwell School in Penarth, completed a gruelling 64 lengths at the Cardiff International Pool followed by a 2 mile bike ride and 2 mile run, within the gym at the pool, to raise over £500 for the children's hospice charity based in Sully.
The boys raised the funds through sponsorship at their former school, Evenlode Primary, family and friends and a very kind donation from Mr Simon Steel of SCP Electrical, based in Penarth.
The sponsorship cheque was handed over to the charity by the boys on October 17 to members of staff from the hospice who praised and thanked the pair for an outstanding effort and contribution.
Special thanks goes to everyone who supported the boys with sponsorship, and to Lisa, Gym Manager at the Cardiff International Pool, who adjudicated over the boys during the triathalon and kindly allowed them to utilise the gym facilities.
