Dinas Powys Rotary Club awards

ROTARIANS Paul Williams, David Williams, Tim Hubbard, David Phillips and Kevin Fowler have been presented the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Rotary Club of Dinas Powys in recognition of their contribution to Rotary and the community. The awards were given at the Dinas Powys Rotary Club on Thursday, October 10.
The Paul Harris Fellow Award is presented in recognition of individuals with outstanding service to the local community or Rotary Club. Other figures who have been awarded the prestigious accolade include Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela.
Presenting the awards was District Governer David Curtis who said: "I am delighted that we are able to recognise the outstanding contribution these members have given to Dinas Powys and especially the Rotary Club and I am equally honoured to be giving five awards in one night, well done Dinas Powys."
Also at the Thursday night club meeting at the Huntsman Restaurant, Dinas Powys Rotary Club were delighted to present Ray Davies of Dinas Powys Football Club with the Services to the Cummunity Rotary Award.
Ray is the junior chairman of the local football club which has over 300 youngsters playing at various levels and he has been involved in the club for over 20 years. Ray was nominated by past president Ged Crosby and voted overwhelmingly by club members.
The Rotary Club night was also pleased to have as their guest speaker Mr Chris Bleach who gave a very interesting presentation on the life and times of the Cardiff Gas and Coke Company from the development of the head office on Bute Street to the Gas works in Grangetown and even show room in what was Habitat and how Cardiff has developed as a major city from this industry.
The vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Dougie Curtain.
