Penarth's Christmas Parade and switching on event set for December 1
11:02am Friday 1st November 2013 in Penarth news
PENARTH Town Council is pleased to announce that this year’s Christmas Parade and switching on event will take place during the afternoon and early evening of Sunday, December 1.
The council is once again teaming up with Hamptons to deliver a festive spectacular.
The Father Christmas Parade will leave West House at 1.45pm on route for the town centre. Mr and Mrs Christmas will arrive at the stage area in Windsor Road by horse drawn carriage where they will meet and greet all the expectant children, so make sure that the children bring their letters to give to Santa. The parade, including; a nativity scene, donkeys, flamboyant characters and reindeer, will lead Santa into the town to the cheering crowds lining the streets.
Before and after the parade there will be entertainment in the town centre followed by the switching on of the Christmas street decorations early in the evening. The Town Council, with generous support from the Vale of Glamorgan Council, will be financing the street decorations.
The festive food and refreshments will be made available by local traders of the town. There will be no outside caterers attending the event in the hope that local catering premises will benefit on the day.
Bro Radio will manage the stage along with Fran Donovan throughout the afternoon and introduce the acts. The Town Council are fortunate to have the Salvation Army, Tabernacle Church, The Siren Sisters and Rock Choir entertaining for the day.
Traders are encouraged to decorate their shop fronts for the best dressed window competition that will be judged by the Town Mayor.
The Town Council are once again producing the Christmas Programme in partnership with the Penarth Times, so if you have an event on during the Festive Period please make sure that you inform the Town Council to be included.
