AS their campaign enters its final stretch, protestors have issued a final call to "Save Sully".

At a public meeting last week the group, with backing from AM Andrew RT Davies, discussed their ongoing campaign which will draw to a close on Friday, December 20.

The group objects to what they say is an invasion of and imposition on their village by three proposed developments, plans to expand and make permanent the traveller's site at Hayes Road, plans to develop 500 houses at Cog and plans for 235 houses at Upper Cosmeston Farm.

The consultation period for these proposals ends in three weeks and the Save Sully group have called on any concerned parties to write to the LDP team at the Vale council or drop letters of objection at the Old School, Sully where a volunteer will collect and deliver them to the council before the deadline.

Speaking after the meeting AM Andrew Davies declared his full backing for the campaign saying: "Residents are right to have concerns about the potential for any new development in the area to overwhelm existing infrastructure. Sadly though, Neil Moore and his Labour colleagues in the Vale Council seem intent on the wilful destruction of our precious greenfield sites

“This isn’t about nimbyism. Local residents understand that there is a need for some development in the area, but it is simply not feasible or sustainable on this scale."

Addressing the issue of the traveller's site, which had been illegally occupied for two years prior to the proposal, Mr Davies said: "This leaves the rather shabby impression that the council is rewarding an illegal occupation with a permanent site and that is both illogical and deeply concerning.

“What was crystal clear from this meeting is the strength of feeling of local residents. The hall was packed on the night and the community council and campaign group put across a very strong case. I look forward to continuing to work with local residents to make that case loud and clear.”

Every Saturday until December 14 from 10am to 4pm, a drop-in centre will be running at the Old School, Sully with volunteers on hand to answer any questions regarding the campaign.
